It’s been awfully hot in this part of the country lately, and that inspired me to try a new drink while out the other night.
It was so fabulous that I must share. So here it is, the cucumber collins!
Cucumber Collins
–Thin slices of fresh cucumber
–Two ounces of gin
–Ginger ale
–Tonic
–Cracked black pepper to taste
Place the cucumber slices in the bottom of a collins glass and cover with gin. You can go ahead and make the drink immediately, or, if you want a stronger cucumber flavor, let them soak for a while.
Add ice and gin. Add roughly equal parts ginger ale and tonic (feel free to adjust to taste. More ginger ale = sweeter, more tonic = not so sweet). Finish by adding cracked black pepper to taste.
The restaurant version of this drink used sour mix instead of tonic, but I found it a bit cloying. However, if you like a sweeter drink, give it a try.
You’ll love the way this drink brings out the botanical taste and aromas in the gin. Simply amazing, and great for summer. Oh, and it’s pretty.

Hmmm. I admit that I'm intrigued by this, despite my absolute loathing for gin. I mean, I despise gin, to me it tastes like turpentine and Mr. Clean got together and gave birth to an unholy offspring.
But one of my best friends loves the stuff. So I've been trying to find ways to drink it, lol. I'm going to have to give this a shot, I think.

MMM! Yuck to the sour mix, too sickly sweet. I think the black pepper flavor would add a lot!
